WCS Philippines: Operation 23319 Starts


August 3, 2013, the date when outstanding cosplayers from 20 countries will again gather in Nagoya, Japan to vie for the title of World Cosplay Champion.

Organized by Japanese TV station Aichi TV, the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) has been the  most famous international cosplay event in the world and its main highlight, the World Cosplay Championships,  a cosplay stage performance competition, has been a dream of every cosplayers around the world especially in the Philippines.

Last Maundy Thursday, after 3 years of negotiations, local organization Anime Alliance Philippines announced that they have been accredited by the World Cosplay Summit executive committee the rights to conduct WCS national and regional preliminaries in the country .

The Philippines has been granted observer status this year by the WCS which means the country is given the rights to be represented to World Cosplay stage this coming August although our representative will be not judged yet.


Almost immediately, comments swarmed the Anime Alliance Philippines Facebook page congratulating the group for bringing a milestone in the Philippine cosplay history.

Cosplay Queen Alodia Gosiengfiao also congratulated and thanked the group for making this dream come true for many Filipino cosplayers. She will be helping Anime Alliance in organizing the preliminaries along side with Collectibles Unlimited – the organizers of TOYCON, Primetrade Asia – organizers of the Best of Anime events and local cable anime channel HERO TV.

While, the World Cosplay Summit welcomes the Filipino community to the “family.”

In reply, Anime Alliance Operations Manager Michael Ramas thanked its staffs, volunteers, the organizers, organizations and individuals who been supportive to the group.

With 5 months to go before the Championships, Anime Alliance are already tapping Mindanao Cosplay Summit organizers Ambox Davao, Anime Alliance – local chapter in Tacloban and otaku community in Iloilo Anigumi Joukai for the planned intra-national preliminaries in Visayas and Mindanao. The group is also planning  to tap  several organizations in the Luzon area for its Luzon conference.

The intra-national preliminaries will cover Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila and it is hinted that one of the prelims will be held on either HERO Face Off or Philippine Toycon.

The group ‘s Standard Weapons and Props policy was also revised to align it with the strict WCS standards.

And to further orient the public on what’s going to  happen next, a live discussion via the official WCS Philippines site was setup.
