Nine-Year Old Wins This Year’s JPOP Anime Singing Contest

Nine-year old Melrick James Celajes was named this year’s Grand Champion of 2013 JPOP Anime Singing Contest.

Celajes bested 9 other finalists during the Grand Finals held last July 20 at the Centerstage, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. He sang “Piece of my wish” by Japanese pop singer Miki Imai.

Second placer was given Sheena Stacey Gonzales who sang “Reaching You/From Me To You” from anime series Kimi Ni Todoko while third place was given to Diana Tabitha for singing “Ryuusei” by Shooting Star. Alexis Arcillas who sang Saigo No Ame by Yasushi Nakanishi took fourth place.

Other finalist were  Hikari, Incognito, Infinity, MAI, Pebbles Montales, and Vinar Takumi.

The event featured special performances from Japanese American rock musician Joe Inoue. He sang his famous songs “Closer” and “Kaze no Gotoku” from anime series Naruto Shippuden and Gintama , respectively on stage.

Inoue is also one of the judges of the singing contest.

The event also featured a mini-cosplay contest. The winners of the contest are as follows:
