The anime adaptation of Machiko Hasegawa’s slice of life comedy manga series Sazae-san has been officially recognized by Guinness World Record as the longest-running animated TV series in the world.
The series beats the American cartoon, The Simpson with already 2,250 episodes with about 7,000 short stories as of September 1.
Sazae’s voice actress Midori Kato received the award in a ceremony in Tokyo. Kato began voicing the character in 1969 and she is already 73 years old.
The anime began airing on Oct 5 1969, and celebrated its 45th anniversary this year.
