AME Fair X Event Recap: Below Expectations

AME Fair X took place last December 13-14 at the East Pavillion Tent of the World Trade Center in Pasay City. It was organized by Worldbex Services International in cooperation the University of the Philippines Anime Manga Enthusiasts.

2014_ame_fair_x_1According to their official website, Worldbex is a premiere exhibition and events management company in the Philippines. Among the top events it organizes are the Manila International Auto Show and Philippine World Building and Construction Exposition, both held in World Trade Center in Pasay City.

AME Fair X was held in parallel with the annual World Bazaar Festival and this should gave them a par advantage. This was also the first time that the premiere event of UP-AME went to two days from one last year.

animePH project despite being delisted as one of its media partners still went to cover the second day of the event.

Jay of Deremoe described AME Fair X as a reminiscence of Primetrade’s Best of Anime Summer Live last May. While BoA’s summer concert needs more rice to eat to prove itself, the AME Fair isn’t. The AME Fair had already a reputation as one of the premiere university anime fairs in the country and should have patrons for the past 10 years of existence.

The expected large crowd didn’t came despite being the one of the most crowded last year and one of the most sought anime event this year.

2014_ame_fair_x_2The number of sponsors this year was few but still top notched. One of them was Geisha’s Blade that showcased real swords based from anime series, TV series and movies. Manika Manila was also at the event to show off their doll collection. Pokemon Philippines and Cardfight Vanguard, both occupying a large area inside the venue, hold tournaments and free tutorials and there was also game tournaments near the entrance.

“In the first day, the event hold the first Dolldelight Fashion Show by US-based Filipino fashion designer and blogger Cyril Lumboy. The Tuxedo Team led by local cosplayer star Jin Joson also ran a two-day Cosplay Workshop called “Tux Teach.””

The highlight of the second day was the individual cosplay competition. The interesting thing about the cosplay competition was that the winner will pick one price, either Php6,000 worth of Excalibur sword by Geisha’s Blade or Php2,000 cash with freebies.

Only 17 participants joined the competition and the winners were all mecha cosplayers. Robert Sta. Ana cosplaying as Daimos became the champion and he picked the Excalibur as his price.  The other winners were RB Cheng as King Gojulas from Zoids and Christian Umali as the War Marchine. Umali donated part of his cash prize to Cosplay.ph’s drive for the typhoon victims.

ame_fair_x (3)AME Fair X ended with the superb performances from Asterisk, Yui for President, Seikan, Asian Chicken Fest and Moonspeak. The Anisong cover bands pulled AME Fair X from flat to lively as they played our favorite songs from various anime series and Japanese artists. The audience went “wild” in the mixed tune of classic and new songs, like Ohayou from Hunter x Hunter, Yuzu Renai Negai from Magic Knight Rayearth, Database from Log Horizon, Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul and many more.

ame_fair_x (14)In the end, AME Fair X was one of the most organized event, the author have seen this year, but, one of the lowest turnout of attendees this year. Despite all the hype and anticipation tagged to the event, the community was very lukewarm to attend this year’s AME Fair. It also didn’t reach the author’s expectations.

Definitely, there were problems on how the AME Fair X was managed. The Christmas season was definitely not the season to organize an event, unless, you are selling stuff good, though the author commends the hosts for their energetic hosting despite the few audience.

Despite all the flaws, the author is still looking forward to cover more AME Fairs in the future.

Here are some photos taken from the event.

animephproject.com is thanking the organizers of the 10th AME Fair for the opportunity to cover despite the minor setback.

Light novel “Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri” gets TV Anime Adaptation

A newly opened website is announcing that Yanai Tagami’s “Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri” fantasy light novel is getting an anime adaptation in 2015.

In August of 20XX, a portal to a parallel world, known as the “Gate,” suddenly appeared in Ginza, Tokyo. Monsters and troops poured out of the portal, turning the shopping district into a bloody inferno.

The Japan Ground-Self Defence Force immediately took action and pushed the fantasy creatures back to the “Gate.” To facilitate negotiations and prepare for future fights, the JGSDF dispatched the Third Reconnaissance Team to the “Special Region” at the other side of the Gate.

Youji Itami, a JSDF officer as well as a 33-year-old otaku, was appointed as the leader of the Team. Amid attacks from enemy troops the team visited a variety of places and learnt a lot about the local culture and geography.

Thanks to their efforts in humanitarian relief, although with some difficulties they were gradually able to reach out to the locals. They even had a cute elf, a sorceress and a demigoddess in their circle of new friends. On the other hand, the major powers outside the Gate such as the United States,China and Russia were extremely interested in the abundant resources available in the Special Region. They began to exert diplomatic pressure over Japan.

A suddenly appearing portal to an unknown world—to the major powers it may be no more than a mere asset for toppling the international order. But to our protagonists it is an invaluable opportunity to broaden knowledge, friendship, and ultimately their perspective towards the world. (MyAnimeList)
