Comic artists and toy designers coming to APCC Manila 2015

asia pop comicon bannerThe organizers of AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2015 will bringing more creative talents particularly comic artists and toy designers to the biggest pop-culture event in the country this September.

Among that are coming are Marvel’s comic book writers and artists David Mack and David Yardin, who worked on the Daredevil and the promotional artwork for Avengers: Age of Ultron, respectively. 

Local artists Carlo Pagulayan, Leinil Yu, Mark Torres, Mico Suayan and Stephen Segovia will be spearheading the Filipino contingent while Callous Comics’ Jose San Juan, Merkymerx’s Miguel Angelo Mercado and free lance artists Aaron Felizmenio and Vincent Trinidad are participants of the Artist Alley.

America’s Next Top Model’s Allison Harvard will set to be the judge along side with famous cosplayer Alodia Gosiengfiao to Cosplay Authority Global Challenge (The CAGE). The CAGE is a first-of-its-kind cosplay competition to find the next global Cosplay star. The champion will receive USD$10,000 cash along with the opportunity to compete in the next edition of The CAGE at APCC Abu Dhabi.

APCC has also announced its first official roster of local and international toys and comics exhibitors for the event such Bankee Trading Inc, Comicave Studios, Filbar, Garena, LEGO, National Bookstore, Perry In Disguise, Swatch, Synergy88 and TeeTurtle

Simone Legno, co-founder and creative director of Tokidoki, designer J’Ryum, Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc (ADI) studio founders  Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr are set to speak in a panel discussion.

AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2015 will be held on September 17 to 20 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. animeph project is one of the online media partners of the event.

WCS Philippines 2016 National Finals to be held in Davao

2015_08_wcsph_2015World Cosplay Summit Philippines committee, in a statement made on their official Facebook page, has announced that the 2016 national qualifiers will be held in Davao City.

Furthermore, schedules for the regional finals will be announced soon.

The WCSPH committee has previously announced that the NCR Qualifier for the competition will take place during the Best of Anime 2015 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia on September 20. The winning pair will be going to the National Qualifiers to determine who will become the Philippine representative to the 2016 World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan.

WCS 2015 Philippine representative Sarah Jane de Ocampo and Jennifer Ong were also winners of a qualifier in Davao before making it to the WCS Philippines Mindanao Qualifiers, then to the Nationals.

STARMARIE streams “Mekurumeku Yuuki!” music video

Fantasy idol group STARMARIE has started streaming the full music video of their latest single “Mekurumeku Yuuki!” (Dazzling Courage!) on their official Youtube channel.

Check out the video below:

The song is the 18th ending theme song of Cardfight!! Vanguard anime and the fourth ending song in the new series Cardfight!! Vanguard G. It made its debut on G Episode 37.

The single made its debut on August 19, 2015. This is the STARMARIE’s first single for an anime series.

STARMARIE is again going to hold a live performances in Manila, Philippines on September 19-20 at the Best of Anime 2015.

Live-action “anohana” TV special unveils child actors

After revealing the show’s main cast, a staff of live-action anohana TV special has unveiled the airing date and the child actors cast for the show.

Attack on Titan’s Hiana invites Filipinos to watch the movie in theaters

Ayame Misaki, one of the cast of the live-action Attack on Titan movie, greets her fans in the Philippines on a 46-second video uploaded on Youtube. She is saying this in Filipino.

Misaki also invites her Filipino fans to watch the movie in the theaters. She portraying “Hiana,” an original character from the movie .

Philippine release of “Love Live! The School Idol Project” movie sets on October 7

SM Cinema through its official Facebook page has announced the premiere date for the upcoming “Love Live! The School Idol Project” anime movie.

The movie will open on October 7, exclusively at SM Cinema and is distributed by Odex, Pte. Ltd.

The 102-minute movie was released in Japanese theatres on June 13, 2015. Aside from the Philippines, the movie will also debut in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei and Indonesia this October.

Japanese drama “Amachan” premieres this October on TV5

TV5 has partnered with Japan International Broadcasting (JIBTV) to air “social phenomenon” Japanese drama TV series Amachan” this coming October.

In their press launch held at Palace Pool Club, JIBTV’s President and CEO Yoshihiko Shimizu said that lot of Filipinos will be able to relate to Amachan’s story. He also said that if “Amachan” is well received in the Philippines, they can offer to bring in more Japanese shows in the country.

JIBTV is a subsidiary of the Japanese national public broadcasting organization, NHK.

“Amachan” premiered last April 1, 2013 and it ran for 15 minutes per episode with a total of 156 episodes. The series was a success in terms of rating, earning an average 20.6% rating over the span of the series, second in the last decade. It has also won the “Galaxy Award” for best television program of 2013.

The series was also broadcast in Taiwan and Thailand.

SYNOPSIS
Summer holidays… Amano Aki follows her mother, Haruko, to her hometown in Kitasanriku. There, she meets her maternal grandmother, Natsu, for the first time. Red Mask, Five Blue returns for Henshincon 2016, add two more guests

The official website for Henshincon has announced that Japanese actors Ryousuke Kaizu and Kei Shindachiya are returning for next year’s tokusatsu event. Kaizu and Shindachiya portrayed Michael Joe/Red Mask of Hikari Sentai Maskman and Ken Hoshikawa/Five Blue of Chikyu Sentai Fiveman, respectively.

It is also announced that Michiko Makino who played Choudenshi Bioman’s Pink Five and a mystery guest are also coming to the event.

Henshincon 2016 is set next March.

“Boruto: Naruto the Movie” opens on September 9 at SM Cinema

SM Cinema through its Facebook page has announced that Naruto’s 11th anime film, Boruto: Naruto the Movie will open this coming September 9. The movie will be screened exclusively by SM Cinema.

SYNOPSIS
It’s been some years since the end of the Shinobi War. Naruto Uzumaki is the 7th Hokage of Konohagakure, in this new era. His son, Boruto Uzumaki, will soon enter the Chûnin exams, alongside Sarada Uchiha and the mysterious Mitsuki.

STARMARIE is back for the Best of Anime 2015

The official Facebook page for STARMARIE has announced that the fantasy idol group will be performing again in this year’s BEST of ANIME 2015.

STARMARIE will be performing live on September 19, 4:00PM and September 20, 11:30AM at the Exhibit Hall stage. Meet and Greet session will be announced soon. Furthermore, one of its member, Motoko Nakane aka Monya will have a cosplay performance on the second day at 2PM.

STARMARIE already performed at The Best of Anime event since 2013. The group also had their first concert last May and several concerts in the metro for the past years.

Ying Tze completes Cosplay Mania ’15 guest line-up

Malaysian cosplayer Ying Tze will again gracing her fans in the Philippines as she joins this year’s biggest “cosplay-centric” event in the country, Cosplay Mania ’15. This will be her third time visiting the country. The first one was in Ozine Fest in 2014.

According to the event’s official Facebook page, Ying Tze will also hold a meet and greet session on October 3 at 12:30PM and October 4 at 11AM. Tickets are priced at Php700.

A seasoned cosplayer and fashion designer, Ying Tze is known for her accurate cosplays such as of Danny Choo’s Mirai Suenaga, Nozomi of Love Live!, Junko Enoshima of Dangan Rompa and Ahri of League of Legends.

The inclusion of Ying Tze will complete the Cosplay Mania’s guest line-up after Japanese cosplayer Reika no longer coming to the event.

Cosplay Mania ’15 will take place this coming October 3-4 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

“Kantai Collection” gets anime movie for 2016

During the Kantai Collection 2nd Naval Review event in Yokohama last week, it was announced the anime movie for Kantai Collection: KanColle will be released next year.

A promotional video was also screened featuring the characters appearing in the movie – Fubuki Kai Ni, Mutsuki Kai Ni, Yuudachi Kai Ni, Akagi, Kaga, Souryuu Kai Ni, Hiryuu Kai Ni, Kuma, Tama, Nagato, Mutsu, Kitakami, Ooi, Shoukaku, Zuikaku, Sendai, Naka, Jintsuu, Yuubari, Kongou Kai Ni, Haruna Kai Ni, Hiei Kai Ni, Kirishima Kai Ni, Choukai Kai Ni, Furutaka Kai Ni, Kako Kai Ni, Maya Kai Ni, Tenryuu and Tatsuta.

Furthermore, a official tweet indicates that the movie and the sequel are separate projects but in production at the same time.

“Terra Formars” anime sequel announced

This year’s 38th issue of Weekly Young Jump magazine has revealed that Terra Formars is getting an anime sequel. More details will be announced on magazine’s next issue.

The series is based on the manga with the same name written by Yu Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana. It was adapted into an anime TV series and OVA in 2014. A live-action film is scheduled to premiere next year.

Light Novel “Musaigen no Phantom World” gets anime

The official Twitter account for Kyoto Animation has announced that light novel Musaigen no Phantom World is getting an anime adaptation. No more details announced.

The action-fantasy light novel was written by Souichirou Shinno, illustrated by Shirabi and it was published in December 2013. It received an honorable mention in the 4th Kyoto Animation Awards in 2013.

SYNOPSIS
The story takes place in the near future, in a world born of human imagination. What humans would call ghosts or monsters appear, and they come to be called “phantoms.” The main character, Haruhiko Ichijou, is a first year at Hosea Academy along with his upperclassman Mai Kawakami, who fights phantoms with the ability “Spirit of Five Elements,” Izumi Reina, who has the ability “Phantom Eater,” and Koito Minase, who fights phantoms in solitude. They experience the ups and downs of high school life before a certain incident leads them to the truth of this world.

A 12-episode anime series, Mekakucity Actors is produced by Shaft in collaboration with Aniplex of America and 1st PLACE. Based on Jin’s Kagerou Project, the series is directed by Akiyuki Shinbo.

After living in solitude for years, a NEET named Shintaro is led back into the outside world by a mysterious female character who infiltrates his computer and causes a breakdown. Desperate to fix his beloved computer, he heads to a department store and in one fateful moment he is thrown into a life of action and crime-fighting adventure.

A group of criminals break in and hold shoppers hostage. Among the crowd happens to be a group of teenagers who call themselves “Mekakushi Dan” (or the Blindfold Gang). Wielding powers using their eyes, they are able to stop the criminals from carrying out their evil plans and force Shintaro to join them.

According to a letter posted on the World Cosplay Summit Philippines (WCSPh) Facebook page, Malacanang congratulates Philippine representatives, Jennifer Ong and Sarah Jane “SJ” de Ocampo for their participation on the recently concluded World Cosplay Summit Championships last August 1 in Nagoya, Japan.
